Before 1989 — The Roots of a Legacy

Long before Anu Catering Services was formally established, it began in the delicious kitchen of Mr. S. Rangarajan's childhood home. He learned the values of passion, discipline, and tradition from the everyday scent of venthayam, pepper, coriander, mustard, and curry leaves tempered in hot ghee. The spirit of the brand was inspired by his mother's cuisine for those on pilgrimages.

1989 — The Birth of Anu Catering Services

Mr. Rangarajan started Anu Catering Services to provide traditional, sensible, and emotional catering. On Govindhan Road in West Mambalam, operations started in a modest 100-square-foot kitchen. Despite the constrained area, the brand's identity was based on:

  • Home-style, fresh cooking
  • Individualized service as opposed to fixed menus

1990–1994 — Rising Demand & First Expansion

Demand grew as quality proved its worth. Anu Catering entered the formal catering market when it expanded to a 300 square foot kitchen. The group served customary family gatherings during this time, including:

  • Seemantham
  • Ceremonies associated with puberty
  • The Upanayanam

An unlimited traditional lunch back then only cost ₹25.

1995 — The Diwali Bakshanam Breakthrough

By 1995, it became clear that customer expectations were evolving. To meet this growing demand, we transitioned from home-style preparation to a fully equipped commercial kitchen, enabling us to produce Diwali bakshanams at scale without compromising authenticity. For the first time, we introduced doorstep delivery, ensuring our festive offerings reached families across the city with greater ease and reliability.

This strategic shift not only expanded our consumer reach but also strengthened our operational capabilities, marking a defining moment in our journey.

2002 — A New Era: Virugambakkam Facility

The Koyambedu Market's launch established the perfect environment for obtaining fresh ingredients. Anu Catering made a significant expansion by moving to a 1,800 square foot location in Virugambakkam.
This change allowed the group to manage:
